Nigeria to participate in Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship

After successfully winning the IHF Women’s Trophy Africa Continental Phase title, the Nigeria under 18 women handball team will participate in the 19 Africa Women’s Youth Nations Championship which will be held in Monastir, Tunisia from September 16 to 23.

In a brief draw ceremony held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Monday, Nigeria was drawn in group A alongside Guinea, Algeria and two times champion, Tunisia.

Group B has the defending champion and the most successful team in the championship with four titles, Egypt, three-time finalist, Angola, D.R Congo and Morocco.

Nigeria will be participating for the first time in the championship since it came second in the very first edition in the year 2000 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast and they will hope to take the form of the IHF Women’s Trophy into the Africa championship which serves as qualifiers for the 2024 IHF Women’s Youth World Handball Championship.

Nigeria has never qualified for the world championship and this is an opportunity for the country to make history.
