A pro-Tinubu political group, Disciples of Jagaban (DOJ), has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, insisting that Nigeria is “gradually recovering” from decades of economic instability, weak leadership, and policy inconsistency.
In a strongly worded statement issued by its National Coordinator of DOJ, Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, the group described the current administration’s policies as “long-term structural corrections intended to rescue Nigeria from economic collapse.”
According to the statement, Nigeria “stands today at a defining moment in her democratic history,” stressing that despite current economic hardship, “the country we see today is gradually recovering from years of economic instability, policy inconsistency, insecurity, institutional weakness, and leadership avoidance.”
The group argued that President Tinubu inherited “one of the most complicated economic and political situations in modern Nigerian history,” including rising debt pressure, foreign exchange instability, unemployment, subsidy burdens, declining investor confidence, and insecurity.
“Unlike many leaders before him who postponed difficult decisions for political comfort, President Tinubu chose to confront the problems directly from the very beginning,” the group said, adding: “That courage alone must be acknowledged by fair-minded Nigerians.”
Defending the removal of fuel subsidy, the group admitted the policy was painful but insisted it was unavoidable, stating, “The removal of fuel subsidy was painful, but necessary. For years, subsidy payments drained trillions of naira that benefited a few powerful interests more than ordinary citizens.”
The group maintained that ongoing reforms in taxation, exchange rate management, infrastructure financing, and local production were not “short-term political moves,” but reforms designed to reposition the economy for long-term stability.

Highlighting what it called early signs of recovery, the group pointed to renewed investor interest, expansion of infrastructure projects, increased state revenues after subsidy removal, and serious efforts toward tax and financial restructuring.
“These efforts may not yet satisfy everyone, but they clearly show a government attempting to build long-term solutions instead of temporary political excitement,” it said.
On the political front, the group described Tinubu as “one of the most strategic political organizers in modern democratic Nigeria,” arguing that opposition leaders currently lack the structure and alliances needed to unseat him in 2027.
“None of them presently possesses the national structure, strategic coalition, political depth, and institutional control necessary to defeat President Tinubu in 2027,” the statement declared.
While acknowledging the relevance of opposition figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Rotimi Amaechi, the group insisted that Tinubu’s “electoral capacity, alliances, and national influence” remain unmatched.
The statement further urged Nigerians to avoid “emotions, propaganda, ethnic division, and religious manipulation” ahead of the 2027 elections, adding: “Nigeria needs stability. Nigeria needs continuity. Nigeria needs patience. Nigeria needs reforms that will outlive politics.”
The group called on Nigerians to support the administration and allow the President “enough time to complete the reform process already underway.”
“History often remembers leaders differently from how they were judged during difficult transitions. “Let us protect democracy. Let us protect stability. Let us protect the future of Nigeria.” Alawuje added.
