Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Mexico, Adejare Bello, has expressed fear over the gloomy future of Nigeria with importation higher than exportation.

He noted that the import is times ten of what Nigeria sends out, saying if the country fails to ban 85 percent of its importation, the future of the country is glooming.

Bello stated this at his country home, Ede, Osun State, during a welcome party organized by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his loyalists after his sojourn in Mexico.

He boasted that Nigeria will overcome its problems after two years of Bola Tinubu in government, saying that the president needs prayer and support from the people to achieve his objectives.

According to him, “Nigeria is battered, we all know it but we have to give him a kind of synergy, work together, and pray for him. Where there is a trade imbalance in Nigeria against other continents is because what we bring in is almost times ten what we send out. What that means is that we have to reduce our demand for imports.

“If I were the president today, I would ban not less than 85 percent of what we bring in as of today. If we don’t do it, tomorrow of Nigeria is very gloomy and we should not allow it to run murky,” Bello said.

Speaking on the performance of Governor Ademola Adeleke who hails from the same town, Bello said he wished Adeleke well but his tenure remains less than three years so he may not have the opportunity to spend another time.

“APC is a party to watch out for in 2026. APC is coming back to power, you can be rest assured. The man there today is my friend and brother. I wish him well. I congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke when he won the election at the Supreme Court. But when it comes to politics, I have to defend where I belong and that is why I said Osun people should watch out as APC will take over power in 2026.

“I will also want to advise Governor Ademola Adeleke that the remaining years, he has almost three years, he should intensify effort to make sure that he develops every facet of Osun State because he may not have another four years to it,” Bello said.
