The draw ceremony for this year’s FIBA U18 AfroBasket Men and Women has been completed in South Africa with Nigeria men drawn in Group B while the women are drawn in Group C.
Nigeria’s men with 7 titles in this category will be attempting to claim an 8th win but will need to take care of Egypt, Angola and Uganda that in Group B with them.
Coach by Humphrey Fubara Onyenabor who led the team to book this ticket at the FIBA Africa Zone 3 U18 Qualifiers held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire earlier in August is confident that his squad will give a good account of themselves.
Group A comprises Mali, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon and Senegal while Group C is headlined by host South Africa alongside Morocco, Zambia and Rwanda.
In the women’s category, Nigeria is drawn with Egypt, Zimbabwe and Uganda in Group C where the Nigerian girls will have to put the same strategy that won the the ticket at the qualifiers held in Abidjan where they made mince meat of Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire.
Host South Africa leads the pack in Group A with Tunisia, Cameroon and Rwanda in tow.
Perennial U18 champions Mali will begin their title defense in Group B and will do battle with Mali, Morocco, Zambia and Angola.
The championship which is a qualifier for the FIBA U19 World Cup in 2025 will commence on September 1 to 14.
