Nigeria football suffered another blackout during the week as no Nigeria club got a dime from the largess shared by Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).
Nigeria football has been experiencing total shutouts both on and off-field play but the recent developments is a massive blow to the growth of the country’s local football.
The world football governing body announced a whopping sum of $209 million to be shared among 440 clubs across the world for releasing their players to participate in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
UEFA clubs have the largest share of 76% going to 275 club followed by Asia 67 clubs and CONCACAF has 53 clubs.
Out of the 18 clubs that received cash from FIFA, no Nigeria club was mentioned as no player from the league participated in the Mundial.
Former Akwa United goalkeeper John Effalla who was with the team to the African Cup of Nations was supposed to have made the team of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon but was dropped from the team in the last minute due to injury .
