The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and their counterpart in the Republic of Benin have concluded arrangements to establish a joint border post at the Segbana border in Kebbi State.
Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi State Area Command, Mr. Ehenacho Ernest Ejike, and the representatives of Benin Republic led by Mr. Aroune Darmane -Head of Customs at Segbana Border Benin Republic were at the Segbana border to finalise the modality on how to establish the joint border patrol.
While speaking at the end of the meeting, the Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi State Area Command, Mr. Ehenacho Ernest Ojike, explained that the discussion would resolve some of the socio- economic challenges of the two countries.
According to him, “The meeting was previously held by the government officials of both countries to create modalities to enhance the socio-economy of both Countries. We want to kick off the reopening of this border here in Segbana -Serimaja border. What we came here for today has to do with how to put the final leg on the operational modalities on how the border arrangements would be worked out.
“Both governments have agreed that a one-stop border post will be established. That is what is being practiced internationally. This is something that would enhance trading.
Ejike also disclosed that they also discussed the comprehensive operational module which included the usage of single-entry foam.
“We have agreed that we are going to have a single-entry declaration form that both countries use. There is also going to be a border joint inspection, a joint agencies inspection for goods and persons as the case may be. So, it is going to be a joint point operation, he added.
