Niger State Police Command said it arrested 45 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists in the last three months. The command also rescued some victims from the kidnappers’ hideouts.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Monday Bala Kuryas, said: “The command has been trailing the hoodlums for the past three months. With the command’s tactical team, vigilante group and local hunters the hoodlums were given chased out of their many hideouts.
“Following the attacks, police started arresting them group by group and recovered some arms and ammunition like AK 47 rifles, pump action and 40 cartridges. The team arrested 10 suspected armed robbers on the highway along Niger/Suleja axis and raided their hideouts, recovering sophisticated weapons from them.
“Police operatives went to some local government areas and raided hideouts in the forests. We rescued five victims held captive by the kidnappers.
“Also, the police operatives arrested seven suspected kidnappers who abducted innocent victims. We clamped down on them in their hideous with the assistance of local hunters and vigilance groups.
“Information through intelligence gathering prompted our officers to swing into action, arrested some of the suspects. We have mapped out strategies and redeployed police tactical teams to flash points.
“We succeeded in arresting some suspected cultists in possession of arms and ammunition. The tactical team arrested some hoodlums who attempted to kidnap innocent people. We were able to foil their operation.
“We also appreciate the state government for the support in the provision of operational vehicles. These enabled us to flush hoodlums out of the state. The suspects will be charged to court after investigations.”
