- Emphasises youth and women representation in cabinets
From Abel Leonard, Lafia
The Nigeria Forum for the Advancement and Development of Youth (NIFADY) has issued a call to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to appoint Dr Nicolas Felix, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Aspirant, as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The forum has also appealed to state governors to prioritize the appointment of more youths and women into their cabinets.
A statement signed by NIFADY’s National Coordinator, Hon. Suleiman Angbashim, and National Secretary, Comrade Imaji Gabriel, sent to reporters on Monday in Lafia, highlighted Dr Felix’s exemplary track record and emphasized the importance of providing a sense of belonging to the youth.
The statement further stated that appointing Dr Nicolas Felix and other young individuals to cabinet positions would foster positive participation in nation-building.
“We call on His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to appoint more youths into his cabinet, including Dr Nicolas Felix. Similarly, we urge all governors across the nation to prioritize the appointment of youths and women into their cabinets,” the statement read.
NIFADY expressed concern over the persistence of recycled leaders in the political system, emphasizing the need for the younger generation to be given the opportunity to contribute to the nation’s governance. The forum also called on Nigerian youths and citizens at large to support President Bola Tinubu and other leaders in their quest for success.
“As a youth organization, we implore the youths across the nation to extend their maximum support to the government and reject violence,” stated the National Coordinator.
The statement recalled the challenges faced by Nigerian youths during the 2023 elections, including the high cost of nomination forms that hindered their participation. However, it commended Dr Nicolas Felix for his efforts in ensuring that the youth wing of the All Progressives Congress had a voice within the political party.
NIFADY emphasized the importance of law abidance, respect for constituted authorities, and peaceful coexistence with neighbours as fundamental principles for national development.
The forum’s call for increased youth and women representation in cabinets aligns with the ongoing dialogue about promoting inclusivity and diversity in Nigeria’s governance structures.
