From Godwin Tsa, Abuja

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), has called on Federal government to strengthen collaboration with the United States and other international stakeholders to address the relentless killings in the country by terrorists groups.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr.Tony Ojukwu (SAN), warned that terrorists groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) are driving an agenda to Islamise the country.

Dr. Ojukwu, made the call yesterday in Abuja during the October 2025 dashboard of the Commission meant to inform the public on incidences of human rights abuses and actions being taken to curb the incidence.

He disclosed that the Commission has received over 406,000 complaints of human rights abuses from across the country, noting that the pattern of killings, particularly in the North-East, had shown the relentless push by terror groups to impose extremist ideology through violence and fear.

He expressed the fear that Boko Haram and ISWAP are on a mission to Islamise Nigeria as they kill both Christians and Muslims who do not believe in their extremist ideologies.

The NHRC boss therefore, urged Nigerian government to take advantage of the threat by US President Donald Trump to forge a lasting partnership to address the killings as well as halt the mission of radical religious groups against the people of Nigeria.

He said the commission is committed to credible and transparent advocacy to ensure the protection of rights of citizens as well as bringing violators to book.

Ojukwu thanked the media for its role in helping in bringing activities of the Commission to the public and urged them to continue to work with the Commission in its work.

Among agencies represented at the presentation include EU, British Council, Police Service Commission, Australia High Commission, NBA and UNDP, among others.
