Despite recording impressive turnover and positive investor sentiment, the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited on Tuesday closed flat with its All Share index slightly losing 1.63 basis points closing at 55,603.94 basis point from an opening value of 55,605.57 points.
There was a 29 percent improvement in turnover volume and a 3 percent improvement in deals as t market traded a total of 159.460 million units of shares in 4,187 deals, compared to 123.545 million units of shares traded in 4,076 deals in the previous session.
Market capitalisation shed a mere N889 million currently standing at N30.290 trillion.
Consequently representing a weekly loss of 0.36 per cent, a monthly gain of 2.4 per cent and an overall year-to-date (ytd) gain of 8.49 per cent. Transnational Corporation plc (TRANSCORP) emerged the most active stock for the day trading 14.420 million units of shares with corresponding market value of N18.466 million while the banking subsectors followed with ZENITHBANK and GTCO trading 13.261 million and 11.871million units of stocks valued at N344.87 million and N311.01 million respectively.
The local stock market closed the trading session with 22 price losers and 10 price gainers.
Leading the laggards’ table was the oil and gas industry as the value of MRS Oil Nigeria Plc depreciated by double digit 10.00 percent closing at N31.05 per share. They were trailed closely by NCR which lost 9.88 per cent and closed the day at N2.92 per share while MULTIVERSE plc shed 9.85 per cent closing at 3.52 per share.
Also on the losing end was VERITASKAP loosing about 9.09 per cent in value closing at N0.20 per share and CUTIX shed 9.09 per cent value and closed the day at N2.00
On the other hand, CAVERTON was the best performing stock for the day as the value of its stock appreciated by 9.62 per cent closing at N1.14 per share while UACN followed with 7.60 per cent and closed at N9.20 per share.
Others in the green angle were WAPIC and MANSARD gaining 5.00 per cent and 4.50 per cent closing at N0.42 and N2.09 per share. CHAMS also added 3.85 per cent to its value closing the day at N0.27 per share.
