A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Segun Aina Foundation (SAF), has sensitized 6,000 secondary school female students in Osun State on menstrual hygiene and distributed sanitary pads to the students.

The Programme Manager, Iyanuoluwa Ogundipe, explained that students were drawn from Iwo and Ede in Osun West; Osogbo and Ikirun in the central; Ilesa and Ile-Ife from Osun East Senatorial Districts.

She commended Kimberly-Clark for donating the sanitary pad distributed to the students to make the sensitization of menstrual hygiene successful.

According to her, the objective was to alert and sensitize young girls on menstrual hygiene considering its importance to their health, and to know the stigma surrounding menstruation.

“Menstruation is a topic most adolescents don’t feel confident talking about and some of them are going through challenges relating to menstruation but they don’t have the confidence to talk about it hence resulting in more on greater health challenges,” Ogundipe said.

She explained further that the sensitization was to encourage the students to break the silence about menstruation and boost their confidence.
