From Lateef Dada, Osogbo
The Osun Country Club, a non-governmental organisation, has made an appeal to well-meaning Nigerians and institutions to support an orphanage home in Osun State.
The call came after the NGO donated food items and cash gifts worth millions of naira to the Our Lady of Fatimah Orphanage Home in Osogbo, the state capital.
During the donation event, Chief Abiola Falayajo, President of the Osun Country Club, emphasized the importance of community support for the less privileged, stating, “The government cannot do it all alone.”
He noted the club’s commitment to assist orphanages throughout the state and highlighted the vital work done by the caregivers and proprietors of the Our Lady of Fatimah Orphanage.
Falayajo expressed gratitude, saying, “We came here to appreciate God and to acknowledge those who care for the less privileged in our society. We believe that this is just the beginning of an ongoing effort.”
He noted that the donation marks the club’s inaugural outreach event, with plans to visit various orphanages across Osun State annually.
Noting that the organization seeks to inspire others to participate in supporting orphanages, the group said, “Next year, we will be visiting another city or town.”
While acknowledging the potential role of the government in providing infrastructure and funding, he insisted that relying solely on government support is not sufficient. “That is why the Osun Country Club is here today, and we encourage individuals and institutions to follow our example,” he added.
Sunday Akere commended the management of the orphanage for their dedication to caring for the children, while Reverend Sister Elizabeth Akinlotan, representing the orphanage’s proprietors, expressed her gratitude for the significant support from the Osun Country Club.
Earlier, members of the Project Planning and Design Committee, a subcommittee of the Osun Country Club’s Project Planning and Fundraising Committee, visited their permanent site, which spans 10 acres, to further their ongoing efforts.
