NERC moves to resolve complaints by electricity consumers in Cross River

The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC has commenced a three-day consumer complaints resolution meeting in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The meeting is open to all categories of electricity consumers which are served by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution, Plc.

It aims to avail consumers of the opportunity to air out their complaints with the aim of resolving them instantaneously.

Speaking while declaring the meeting open, the commissioner in charge of consumer affairs with NERC Aisha Mahmud said the meeting has been held in various parts of the country and has been a huge success.

“We are here to resolve problems like has been done in several parts of the country and has been a huge success.

“Complaints will be resolved on the spot and NERC will ensure this is done except for technical issues that require investigation,” she said.

She added that NERC aims to maximize access to electricity which is a fundamental right.

She also disclosed that the commission which has the critical responsibility of tariff setting will always ensure that while setting prices only prudent cost is passed to the consumers.

Also speaking, Angela Ajere a representative of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution, Plc assured consumers that the distribution company is ready to ensure that complaints are resolved.

She welcomed the meeting at the instance of NERC and stressed that it would be a win-win for both consumers and the distribution company.
