The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has been thrown into deep mourning following the demise of globally revered Islamic scholar and spiritual titan, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who passed on at the age of 98.
His exit has cast a dark cloud over Nigeria, Africa and the global Muslim community, as tributes continue to pour in for a man widely hailed as one of the most influential religious figures of his generation.
In an emotional statement released on Sunday, NEF spokesperson, Prof. Abubakar Jika Jiddere, described the late Sheikh as “a guiding light, a father to the Ummah, a refuge for the troubled, and a voice of truth.” According to him, the cleric’s compassion, humility and unmatched wisdom impacted countless lives across the continent.
Prof. Jiddere said Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s death signals “the fading of a rare, radiant star whose brilliance shaped generations.”
For decades, the late Sheikh stood tall as a pillar of faith and modesty. His teachings, prayers and leadership not only strengthened families and communities, but also inspired presidents, traditional institutions and religious leaders far beyond Nigeria’s borders. His firm commitment to peace, justice and unity earned him global respect.

“The intellectual and spiritual world of Islam stands quieter and dimmer,” the Forum lamented, while extending condolences to his family, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Government and people of Bauchi State, the Muslim Ummah and millions of Nigerians touched by his teachings.
NEF’s Convener and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Prof. Ango Abdullahi (CON), and Chairman of the Management Board, Air Marshal Al-Amin Daggash (CFR, rtd), also sent their heartfelt sympathies, describing the cleric’s death as “a loss of immeasurable magnitude.”
They noted that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was not just a leader, but “a father, a bridge-builder and a symbol of hope.” They prayed for Allah to grant his family the strength to bear the loss and to envelop the entire Ummah in mercy and patience.
The NEF leadership further hailed the revered scholar’s lifelong devotion to fostering unity, promoting interfaith harmony, calming tensions and nurturing compassion across communities.
They prayed for Allah’s mercy upon his soul, asking that his grave be widened and illuminated, and that he be granted the highest station in Jannatul Firdausi among the righteous.
Nigeria, they said, has lost a treasure. The Muslim world has lost a pillar. Humanity has lost a guiding light.
