The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has called for a unified command structure to strengthen the fight against crime in Nigeria.

Speaking at an interagency seminar in Abuja, Marwa said security challenges such as insurgency, banditry, drug trafficking, and violent cultism are interconnected and require coordinated responses rather than isolated efforts by individual agencies.

He stressed that improved intelligence sharing and joint operations among security institutions would significantly enhance national security outcomes.

Marwa also advocated a “whole-of-society” approach, urging collaboration between security agencies, civil society groups, traditional and religious leaders, educators, the media, and citizens to build a more effective intelligence network.

According to him, establishing joint analysis cells, shared databases, and regular interagency briefings would help close intelligence gaps exploited by criminal elements.

The NDLEA boss noted that existing partnerships with international bodies such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Interpol provide a strong model for deeper cooperation.

Marwa added that a unified command system, combined with real-time intelligence sharing, is essential for transforming security coordination into decisive action against crime.
