Super Eagles’ Wilfred Ndidi was combative in the midfield for Leicester City, as he was at top level for the Foxes who answered Good Friday’s below-par defeat at Bristol City with a performance of the highest level against Norwich City.
Leicester City came from behind to defeat the play-off chasers 3-1 in one of its most impressive displays in recent weeks, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Stephy Mavididi, and Jamie Vardy all on target at King Power Stadium on Easter Monday.
Enzo Maresca would usually have two attacking midfielders vary in their positioning across, as Dewsbury-Hall naturally teamed up with Mavididi down the left and Ndidi with Fatawu.
However, against Norwich, Ndidi seemed as though he was tasked with a different job. The Nigerian continued to support Fatawu down the right wing but Leicester had great success from him reverting back to his old self more centrally.
Alongside Winks, who was superb, Ndidi helped Leicester split the play up and nullify any Norwich threat. The first-half was more of what we’ve become used to – in the sense of a basketball match – but in the second half, City dominated and that was largely down to the midfield.
Ndidi, who has been one of the players criticised for his lack of ‘effort’ with his contract up in the summer, was excellent on the ball and incredible in transition. It’s no coincidence that Leicester suffers when he’s not in the squad.
Norwich simply couldn’t get out of its own half as Leicester piled the pressure on. It paid off with two second half goals. It was by far perfect but it was better.
Ndidi’s presence in midfield has been a big boost for Leicester. He got forward, constantly making runs to support Fatawu, won the ball back in midfield and tracked back when required. Delivered a superb ball to the back post for Dewsbury-Hall’s leveller out wide.
