The Chairman of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Kosmus Akighir, has announced the commission’s readiness to work closely with state governors to drive development initiatives across the region.

Akighir disclosed this when he led members of the commission on a courtesy visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule at the Government House in Lafia, Nasarawa State on Tuesday.

He said the commission would collaborate with governors and other stakeholders to improve living standards and tackle poverty in the North Central zone.

According to him, the support of state governments is essential for the commission to achieve its objectives.“We want to appreciate you for providing an office for us to start. We need some vehicles for our operational deficiency,” the chairman stated.

Akighir also commended Governor Sule for his developmental achievements, noting that several projects completed in the state align with the mandate of the NCDC.

In his response, Governor Sule described the visit as historic, signifying the beginning of the commission’s operations. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to establishing the commission.“Let me first use the opportunity to express great appreciation to Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his commitment to ensuring the establishment of NCDC,” Sule said.

The governor also acknowledged the role of his colleagues in ensuring the commission’s smooth take-off while apologising for their absence at the event.“Let me also use the opportunity to thank my colleagues, the governors, for coming together to ensure that the take-off is as smooth as possible,” he added.

Governor Sule further stressed the need for financial support from state governments to enable the commission to function effectively from inception.
