The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) has been awarded the 2026 Certificate of Accreditation by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI).

The Director of Public Affairs at the College, Dr. Jude Amadi, said in a statement that the accreditation, which is valid from February 19, 2026, to February 28, 2031, covers major programmes, including Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Technology (Airframe & Powerplant, Avionics) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Aviation Management.

“This achievement further strengthens the resolve of the Rector, Dr. Danjuma A. Ismaila, to sustain high standards and continue advancing the growth of NCAT in line with global best practices,” he said.

The Rector earlier told journalists during a facility tour of the school that his administration is currently working with an international partner through the European Aviation Licensing Authority (EALA) to explore whether graduate pilots can earn a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certificate.

He said: “At present, upon graduation, our students only receive Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) certification, which means their competency is recognised solely by Nigerian airlines and a handful of other African carriers. But if they also earn an EASA certificate, which is the standard recognised across all European countries, the picture changes entirely, and they stand a better chance of getting jobs in Europe upon graduation.

“Once we affiliate with an EASA-certified Approved Training Organisation (ATO) in Europe and meet their requirements, our graduates will leave here with two certifications and two licences: the EASA certificate and the NCAA certificate. That would open the door to employment in Europe, where there are far more opportunities. For instance, we were informed last November that Ryanair was actively recruiting pilots from Nigeria and other English-speaking countries, with an EASA licence as the primary requirement.”
