The Navy Sailing Club (NSC) marked its 2025 end-of-year activities with a series of water sports events, project commissioning, and celebrations, drawing commendation from a special guest of honour and club leadership.
Speaking at the event, the guest of honour described the occasion as a “wonderful show of progress,” expressing delight at the commissioning of projects and the flag-off of a water sports event. The guest praised the grand year-end celebration, the collective birthday of club members, and the ongoing boat race, describing the experience as exciting and inspiring, with a commitment to return for future activities.
The guest further observed that water sports in Nigeria are gradually gaining prominence, particularly with the Navy Sailing Club serving as a central hub. Referencing a recent Lagos State government water sports race, the guest linked the growing interest in water sports to the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and the blue economy initiative, noting that water sports are a major component of the sector. Emphasising the role of the Nigerian Navy, the guest highlighted the potential of water sports for capability development, job creation, and value chain growth, calling for increased sponsorship, investment, and participation.

Earlier, the Commodore of the Navy Sailing Club detailed the club’s fourth-quarter and end-of-year activities, which included a birthday boat race and various water sports competitions. He expressed satisfaction with the success of the programme, noting that initial concerns about participation were dispelled by the turnout and overall execution. He described the fourth-quarter celebration as the best so far, adding that hosting the event was especially meaningful as his birthday falls in November.
The Commodore clarified that his administration, which assumed office on August 30, 2025, had been in place for only a few months. Despite this, he outlined key achievements, including the commissioning of a new pavilion—the first in the club’s history—the renovation of all five Tavar facilities, and the introduction of open-field activities for club events.
Describing the 2025 water sports season as “amazing,” the Commodore highlighted successful boat races and swimming competitions involving both children and adult sailors. He also noted with pride that no casualties were recorded during the season, attributing the incident-free events to careful planning and guidance.
The celebrations underscored the Navy Sailing Club’s growing role in promoting water sports and supporting Nigeria’s emerging blue economy.
