The Nigerian Navy Ship Victory (NNSV), has handed over a truck laden with unspecified litres of suspected adulterated diesel to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).
The Base Intelligence Officer of NNSV, Calabar, Lt.-Cdr. Godswill Okotue, handed over the truck to the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Mr Solomon Eremi, on Friday in Calabar.
Okotue said that the handover was done on behalf of the NNSV Commander, Commodore Ifeanyi Okpala, as directed by the Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Adm. Ibrahim Dewu.
He said that the truck was arrested on Aug. 19, 2022 at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation park at Esuk Utan community, Calabar.
According to him, the truck was suspected of carrying out some illegalities before officials of the NNSV swung into action.
“The truck was arrested on Aug. 19 by officials of NNSV. By the time we got to the park, the driver and his assistant have fled the park; nobody was arrested aboard the truck.
“The product is suspected to be adulterated diesel with unspecified number of litres.
“In line with extant regulations, we will be handing over the truck to the NSCDC for onward investigation and prosecution,” he said.
Speaking after receiving the truck, Eremi thanked the Nigerian Navy for the synergy and collaboration, adding that they have always been contacting them on such cases.
Eremi, who said he received the truck on behalf of the Commandant of NSCDC in Cross River, Mr Samuel Fadeyi, assured that the NSCDC would do justice to the truck and the product. (NAN)
