The leadership of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), has warned its members to desist from acts that could jeopardise the peace and unity of the union, stressing that NASU is the only recognised body that carters for the non-teaching staff in higher institutions in the country and should be guarded jealously.
The National President of the union, Mr Hassan Makolo, stated this yesterday in a goodwill message on the occasion of the branch delegates conference and quadrennial election of the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu in Enugu State.
Represented by the Deputy General Secretary, Mr Danjuma Jubrin, the president noted that NASU had received enormous support from its leadership and the government, adding that the support the union had received as a trade union organisation, had transformed it into what it was today.
He disclosed that 2023 is the year of elections for the union nationwide, pointing out that it commenced in March with the branch unions’ elections and would end in December with the National Delegates Conference.
‘’It is important to inform you that this year, 2023 is election period. The branch election started in March and will end in July 2023 and after that, we move to the State Council election which will begin and end in August. After this is the Trade Group Council election which comes up in September and this will be rounded off in December with the National Delegates Conference.
Earlier in a valedictory speech, the outgoing chairman of the branch, Mr Peter Bartholomew thanked the Enugu State NASU executives, the national body, the Management of the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu and all the branch members for their support, saying that the cordial relationship that existed among them counted much to their achievements.
Meanwhile, the 2023 election of the branch was conducted by the officials of the union from the national body and the Enugu State NASU executives, led by Mr Jubrin and other members of the team.
