From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja
The South-South Community in Abuja has expressed support for the quest of former Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yari, to serve as the President of the Senate in the 10th assembly.
Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mike Okiro, while speaking during a solidarity visit to Yari, by the community, in Abuja,, said the people of South-South are behind him and would be praying for his emergence as Senate President on June 13, when the 10th National Assembly will be inaugurated.
Okiro noted that “we are here to tell you that we are with you, we support you. We are with you in our prayers. We are going to spread the news of our visit. We hope that God will hear our prayers and bless your ambition.”
Yari, in his response, noted that it is only the will of God that will prevail in the contest for who becomes the next Senate President. Consequently, he said no one should fight the will of God, as it is only God that installs a kings.
He stressed the need for political stakeholders to do the right thing by playing by the rules.
According to him, “It is only God who enthrone or makes the king. This is to call the attention of anyone who thinks that he enthrones and dethrones. Those that are on the throne should remember that they were given the throne by God and that God never shifts from where he is. This is a clarion call for everyone. It is only God, it is only God’s decision that will prevail.”
He added: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while taking his oath of office said he would rule Nigeria with the rule of law and the constitution. We are waiting. I am proud to be a founding father of where we are today and I have no regret. But let us see where the rule of law will go.”
The former governor promised that if he emerges the Senate President, he will collaborate with President Tinubu to address the challenges confronting the people of the South-South geo-political region.
“The Ogoni cleanup is doable. I believe with the present President, it would be a reality. If Yari becomes the Senate President, we will do our best for the betterment of the South-South. With your prayers, God who enthrones will put the royal cap on our head. We want to lead the National Assembly for a better Nigeria,” he stated.
