The National Assembly will hold a joint session, on Wednesday, to commemorate 25 years of unbroken democracy and legislature.
A statement by the management of the National Assembly, on Monday night, indicated that the session, which will also feature a commemorative lecture, would be attended by President Bola Tinubu.
According to the statement, Tinubu is expected to deliver an address at the joint sitting, as well as commission the new National Assembly Library as part of the events slated for the 25 years celebration.
Also expected at the joint session are Vice President Kashim Shettima,
former Head of State, General Abdusalami Abubakar ( retd) ; former Senate President David Mark and former speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Recall that this is the first time the country would be having 25 years of unbroken democracy since independence in 1960.
The first republic had lasted from 1960 to 1966, when the first military coup took place. The military handed over to a civilian administration in 1979, marking the beginning of the second republic.
Nevertheless, the second republic was truncated by the military on December 31, 1983. Similarly, the third republic, which started in 1992 was aborted by another military coup in November 1993.
However, after six years, the military once again handed over power to civilians on May 29, 1999.
