In a significant development for environmental conservation, the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources, Hon Kwanta Yakubu, welcomed a delegation from the Agro Ranger unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nasarawa State Command.
The leader of the delegation, Uwanoghrah Francis, Deputy Commandant on Thursday, expressed their purpose for the visit: “We are here to work out a modality on how the Command could partner with the Ministry for the protection and preservation of the State’s forests and farmlands, as well as combatting illegal, indiscriminate cutting down of trees.”
Highlighting the broader scope of their concerns, Francis added, “The Agro Ranger is also concerned with the issue of illegal mining in the State and how to mitigate Climate Change.”
In response, Commissioner Yakubu Kwantas expressed his appreciation, stating, “Their coming and the show of concern on the enumerated issues have become an eye-opener to me.”
He assured the delegation of the Ministry’s readiness to find solutions, stating, “We are committed to bringing an end to these environmental menaces.”
