.Matriculates 1,498

The Rector of Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, Dr. Silars Gyar, has expressed dismay over the non-accreditation of courses in the institution and described the situation as unpalatable.
The Rector, however, assured the students that the institution would ensure that all the courses are accredited before the end of the year.
Gyar stated this during the 2016/2017 matriculation ceremony of 1,498 fresh students into its various programmes.
He further explained that the first set of hostel accommodation in the institution has been completed and awaiting commissioning by the Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura.
He also commended the governor for paying compensation fees to secure 1,000 hectares of land for the school to ensure infrastructure development.
The Rector also warned the new students against cultism and other anti-social activities capable of truncating their educational pursuit.
He express gratitude that the first set of HND graduates of the institution has being mobilise by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for the one year mandatory service, noting that the development is a breakthrough for the institution being first of its kind.
According to him, the 16th matriculation exercise was to acquaint the new students with fundamental principles, norms and culture of the institution and advised them to abide by its rules and regulations, adding that out of the number, 1, 423 were for National Diploma while 75 were for Higher National Diploma.
He said the number of matriculating attendant was kept low to ensure quality service delivery in line with best practices.
Gyar admonished the new intakes to justify their admission by taking their academics seriously and adhering strictly to the rules and regulations guiding the institution.
“As you begin your study at the polytechnic, I encourage you to strive for excellence in your academic pursuit,” He said.
He maintained that the polytechnic has zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice other social vices, adding that any student found culpable would expelled and handed over to Police for prosecution.
One of the students, Miss Daniela Onoja, who spoke with our correspondent said she was excited to be in the polytechnic.
Onoja, a student in the Mass Communication, promised to abide by the rules and regulations of the institution so as to attain her ambition of becoming a Journalist.
