Nasarawa police kill armed robbery suspect, apprehend accomplice

In a move to curb the rising tide of armed robbery in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada orchestrated a comprehensive community policing strategy to bolster security in the area.

He noted that: “The collaboration between the police, vigilante groups, and members of the community was instrumental in our recent success.”

According to a statement signed by the state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the collaborative approach yielded results on the night of April 5, 2024, when the police received intelligence regarding an ongoing armed robbery incident in the Aso Pada area of Mararaba. 

He said the police alongside vigilance community members, thwarted some criminal activity.

In the ensuing operation, one suspect, identified as Ifeanyichukwu Ilegalu, was neutralised, while another, Edache Joseph, aged 20, was apprehended. 

Nansel, praised the valour displayed by the officers, vigilantes, and courageous civilians involved in the operation.

“Their bravery exemplifies the spirit of cooperation necessary to combat crime effectively.” 

He added that recovered from the apprehended suspects were two stolen phones and other incriminating items, which would serve as crucial evidence in ongoing investigations.

He assured the Nigeria Police’s continued support for such collaborative efforts, and urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agency to ensure the safety and security of all residents in Nasarawa State.
