Nasarawa: Oluremi Tinubu extends N100,000 support to 9,000 vulnerable senior citizens

Her Excellency, Oluremi Tinubu, launched the inaugural phase of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) on Thursday at the Alyu Akwe Banquet Hall, Government House Lafia, Nasarawa State capital.

Daily Sun reports that the theme for the initiative, “Better Days Ahead,” echoes the resolute commitment to uplifting the welfare of elderly citizens, reinforcing the nation’s path towards inclusivity and compassion.

In a bid to alleviate economic strains, Senator Oluremi said it is to honour the invaluable contributions of the elderly, the RHIESS targets Two Hundred and Fifty (250) vulnerable citizens aged 65 and above in each of the 36 states of the federation, alongside the Federal Capital Territory.

Additionally, she said veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) will benefit from this program. Each selected beneficiary will receive a substantial sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000).

The speech which was delivered by Her her Excellency wife of the Deputy governor of Nasarawa State, Sheila Akabe, explaining that the Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative has sanctioned a total disbursement of Nine Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N950,000,000) for this noble cause.

“This financial aid, amounting to Twenty-Five Million Naira (N25,000,000) per state, aims to ensure equitable support for elderly citizens nationwide.”

Addressing the importance of prioritising the elderly during festive periods, Senator Oluremi Tinubu emphasised the significance of acknowledging and honouring their unique challenges and contributions to society.

She urged senior citizens to cherish life, prioritise health, nurture the mind, and foster connections with loved ones and spirituality for a fulfilling life in their golden years.

Expressing gratitude to stakeholders and partners, including state coordinators of RHI, the First Lady acknowledged their support with free medical screenings and the distribution of essential items to beneficiaries.

Furthermore, she called for continued support and prayers for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, envisioning a brighter future for Nigeria in security, education, health, employment, and business opportunities for all.

Senator Oluremi extended warm holiday wishes and prayed for a fruitful and prosperous year ahead for all citizens, invoking blessings upon the revered elders and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
