The Nasarawa State government has assured residents that there are no confirmed cases of cholera in the state, despite reports of suspected cases in some local government areas.
Speaking at a press conference in Akwanga, the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Gaza Shekwonugaza Gwamna, said, “We have 19 suspected cases in Kokona and 10 in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government areas, but none have been confirmed as cholera.”
Dr Gwamna added, “We had a suspected case that died in Nasarawa Eggon, but it was not confirmed to be cholera, rather it was diagnosed as Dairiah.”

The Commissioner emphasized that the state is prepared to combat any outbreak, saying, “Our Disease surveillance officers from the state, community, and ward levels have been informed and are working to provide substantial information about the outbreak from various communities.”
He noted that consumables for prevention and to stop the spread are ready in various locations across the state, except for hard-to-reach areas or security-prone areas where there may be delays.
Dr. Gwamna reiterated the state government’s commitment to taking health issues seriously, acknowledging the commitment of Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule to healthcare matters.
“We are on top of the situation, and we urge residents to report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility,” he said.
Dr. Gwamna praised the efforts of healthcare workers in the state, saying, “Our healthcare workers are doing a great job, and we appreciate their dedication to serving the people of Nasarawa State.”
The Commissioner further assured residents that the state government is committed to providing quality healthcare services and ensuring the well-being of all residents.
