Nasarawa: Governor pardons 14 Inmates in New Year gesture

  • Exercise of prerogative of mercy under constitutional powers

In a significant move marking the onset of the New Year, Engr Abdullahi A Sule, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, has exercised his powers vested under section 212 (1) & (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) to grant a pardon to 14 inmates.

According to a letter signed by the state Attorney General and commissioner for justice, Hon. Labaran Magaji sighted by Daily Sun on Monday explained that the pardon, facilitated after thorough consultations with the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, chaired by the Hon. Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice, Labaran Shuaibu Magaji Esq., aims to commemorate the beginning of 2024.

The gesture seeks to afford these individuals a fresh start, absolving them from their past offenses and enabling their immediate release from various Nigerian Correctional facilities. The beneficiaries of this presidential act include:
