Nasarawa: Calls for construction of Loko-Lafia Road intensify
From Abel Leonard, Lafia
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Loko Development Area, Amb. Adamu Abdul Loko, has commended the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, for his efforts in providing infrastructural development in the Loko community. He particularly highlighted the governor’s success in delivering rural electrification and constructing township roads in the area.
Amb. Loko, who also holds the traditional title of Turakin Loko, expressed his appreciation during an exclusive interview with The Sun Correspondent yesterday noting that the projects have significantly improved the living conditions in Loko.
He acknowledged the N500 million investment by the state government, which included the provision of six transformers to aid the electrification project in rural communities, including Loko.
“My optimism and confidence in His Excellency’s ability to deliver development projects became a reality when Loko was connected to electricity a year after the governor’s promise. This is a milestone that has transformed our community,” Loko said.
In addition to expressing gratitude for the electrification, Loko lauded the construction of township roads in Loko, emphasizing the economic benefits the roads bring. He noted, “The governor’s intervention in building roads has improved the town’s aesthetics and created economic opportunities for the residents and the entire state.”
However, Loko also made a passionate appeal for further infrastructural development, specifically requesting the construction of the Loko-Lafia road through Akum-Gidan Bawa-Doma. According to him, the project would significantly reduce travel time between Loko and the state capital, Lafia, thereby boosting economic activities.
“This road will cut the distance between Loko and Lafia by bypassing Nasarawa town, Keffi, and Akwanga, reducing travel time by about 70%. It will help farmers transport their produce more efficiently to the state capital and enhance security, as law enforcement can respond more swiftly to emergencies in Loko,” he said.
He added that the road would also facilitate interstate travel by providing a quicker route for travelers coming from the South-South and South-East regions through the Loko-Oweto Bridge.
Loko however, urged Governor Sule to approve the road construction, which he believes will further solidify the governor’s legacy of innovation and infrastructural development across Nasarawa State.
