Vows to fight for Governor Sule’s re-election at appeal
From Abel Leonard, Lafia
The State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has thrown its unwavering support behind His Excellency, Engr Abdullahi A Sule, Governor of Nasarawa State, in his decision to appeal against the recent verdict of the Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal.
Recall that the tribunal’s ruling in Nasarawa on Monday 2nd October had overturned the mandate given to Governor Sule for a second term during the March 18, 2023 election.
In a strongly worded statement, read by the chairman of the party, Alyu Bello said the APC criticized the Election Tribunal’s decision, asserting that it had made a significant error in arriving at its verdict. “The party unequivocally rejected the split judgment of the tribunal, which annulled Governor Sule’s re-election by a margin of two to one (2-1).”
The APC also expressed disbelief in the tribunal’s declaration of the PDP candidate as the winner of the Gubernatorial Election in Nasarawa State. The party aligned itself with the dissenting judgment, citing its strong foundation in law, facts, and logic as the basis for its resolve to pursue the appeal.
The party highlighted the overwhelming and incontrovertible facts and arguments presented by its legal team and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against the petition of the PDP and its candidate, David Emmanuel Ombugadu. The APC found the tribunal’s decision puzzling, considering the strength of their case.
Emphasizing their commitment to the rule of law, the APC called on the people of Nasarawa State, especially its supporters and well-wishers, to remain calm and patient while awaiting the pursuit of justice through the appeal process.
The APC reassured Governor Sule of its unwavering support and loyalty, expressing confidence that the tribunal’s decision was only a temporary setback that would be rectified at the Appeal Court.
The APC further encouraged Governor Sule to stay focused on the task of providing good governance to the state and acknowledged the economic hardships faced by Nigerians. They commended the agreement reached between Organized Labour and the Federal Government, averting a planned strike action that could have exacerbated economic hardships.
The APC also urged the PDP to maintain decorum and responsibility in their actions and celebrations, emphasizing the importance of avoiding any breakdown of law and order during this challenging time.
