Following the recent suspension of Max Air and a spate of near-miss incidents, the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA) has called for urgent collaboration between airlines and regulatory agencies to enhance aviation safety in Nigeria.
NANTA President, Mr. Yinka Folami, expressed concern over the growing number of safety incidents, emphasizing the need to prioritize passenger safety. “The lives of Nigerians matter,” he stated.
The call for collaboration comes after the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) announced the suspension of Max Air and initiated an organizational risk audit for all domestic airlines. This action followed a tyre burst incident involving a Max Air aircraft at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on Tuesday.
“We advise that all hands must be activated to restore confidence in air travel across Nigeria,” Folami said. “We do not need unpleasant aviation mishaps; the Nigerian travelling public is already going through a lot and deserves better.”
NANTA acknowledged the ongoing investigations into recent incidents but urged proactive measures to enhance emergency response systems and ensure the safety and unimpeded journeys of passengers.
Folami stated that NANTA has received concerns from customers about recent events and emphasised the need for all stakeholders – airlines, government agencies, and other aviation players – to work together to address challenges and improve overall safety within the aviation sector.
