The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has nullified the purported impeachment of one of its former President, Danielson Bamidele Akpan.
NANS Senate President, Akinteye Babatunde, in a letter to the ex NANS President indicated that the decision to nullify the impeachment was the outcome of an undercover investigative committee on the purported impeachment.
He said: “Since we took the responsibility of carrying out this onerous task and investigating the October 13th, 2020 impeachment, we reached into the entire tenure as led by Comrade Akpan.
“We equally engaged with critical stakeholders who played one role or the other, as well as dissecting the power play, the struggles and the external interference/influence that intercepted the administration.
“After due consideration of the report of the undercover committee which the Senate commended and appreciated them for a good job done and timely report, the Senate of the NANS decided that the purported impeachment of Comrade Danielson Bamidele Akpan, former NANS President is not in conformity with the constitution.
“That the constitution under which the action was executed has no recognition for zoom or electronic media, and cannot be used as a meeting point for the suspension or impeachment of any executive officer.
“That the impeachment was politically motivated by certain political heavyweights who claimed the president stepped on their toes in the course of a passionate discharge of his duties as the NANS president.”
It declared that the impeachment lacks basis and it’s hereby declared null and void. It restored all honour, rights and privileges of a NANS President on Comrade Danielson Bamidele Akpan, asking the media and the public should to take note.”
It further stated that Comrade Danielson Akpan can be trusted with any public office or political appointment that he’s eminently qualified for.
