The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has organised sensitisation/awareness workshop on compulsory insurances for members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Itan Central Park Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State recently.
The Commissioner for Insurance, Sunday Thomas, who was represented by Head, Corporate Communications & Market Development, ‘Rasaaq, Salami, spoke on benefits of insurance, especially third party motor policy that is required by law for all vehicles plying roads in the country.
Third Party Motor Insurance is one of the compulsory insurance policies in Nigeria. Commonly known as ‘Police Let Me Pass’, is the legal minimum level of motor insurance cover any vehicle owner in Nigeria must possess.
He told them that they stand to get up to N3 million for third party liabilities on a premium payment of N15,000, with other benefits which include, coverage across West African subregion and avoidance of unnecessary harassment on the road, in case of an accident.
Salami assured them of prompt payment of genuine claims, and enjoined them to patronise registered insurance companies; brokers; agents for genuine motor insurance policies, stressing that no insurer would honour fake insurance certificates. “Enure your vehicles and enjoy more. Make sure you meet the right intermediaries and be honest in your claims,” he admonished.
