The Nigerian Aviation Fire and Safety Association (NAFSA) has urged the management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to give priority to the training of firefighters in the agency.
NAFSA President, Ugbeikwu Sunday, said this on Tuesday when the executive paid a courtesy visti to the Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku. He said firefighters are lagging behind in the area of competency training and also emphasised on the need for collaboration to deepen the synergy between both organisations as NAFSA draws the preponderance of its membership from FAAN, hence the importance of the partnership.
Sunday assured Kuku that NAFSA will support and encourage her to ensure that the training of firefighters is given a priority. He also stressed on the need to ensure that firefighters acquire competency trainings at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), which is a recognised Approved Training Organisation duly certified by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the International Civil Aviation Organsiation (ICAO). He said the aircraft fire stimulator at NCAT was situated in Zaria to serve the purpose of competency trainings for firefighters and to generate revenue for the nation.
While responding, Kuku welcomed the collaborative move by NAFSA and urged the association to strive to maintain a rewarding relationship with FAAN. She further stressed that the importance of training and acknowledged that firefighters deserve to acquire competency training in line with the NCAA/ICAO regulations.
