NAF@59: We’re committed to ending terrorism in Nigeria – CAS

Chief of the Air Staff(CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao

From Geoffrey Anyanwu, Enugu

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshall Oladayo Amao, yesterday restated the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to seeing to the end of terrorism, criminal and conventional insurgencies in the country.

Assuring that NAF is working very hard to ensure safety for all in the country, Amao, however, called for the cooperation of the people through useful information.

Speaking at Ojiagu, Agbani, Nkanu West local government of Enugu State, the community that hosts the Air Force Comprehensive Secondary School, Enugu, during the flag off of a medical outreach of NAF, the CAS, who was represented by the Air Officer Commanding Ground Training Command, Air Vice Marshal Sayo Olatunde, noted that putting food on the table and providing healthcare are all parts of security.

Addressing the traditional ruler of Ojiagu Agbani, Igwe Umunnabuike Ejim, and his people, he said: “We are celebrating 59 years of our existence. As you’re aware Sir, the Nigerian Air Force is committed to ending terrorism, criminal and conventional insurgences in the land. We’re also aware that when we are talking of insecurity, it’s not just ending all those things I have mentioned, but also putting food on our table is part of security, nowadays, and also being in good health. That is why we are conducting this medical outreach.

“We are obliged to pay back to the community some of the good things you’ve been doing for us, and with the hope that we will get more from you. We are here to protect, but you also need to keep us informed because if you don’t keep us informed of what is happening in the community, we will not know what to do. Thank God we’ve been doing that on both sides; we’ve been playing our role and you have been playing your own role as well in the past. So, we want to encourage you sir, and the entire people to continue to play that role. Left for us, we will continue to do our best to keep everyone safe.”

Commending the community on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff, Olatunde, said: “We are very proud of you people and the way you have been relating with us in the past years, we have not had any problem with this community since we have been here. The school (Air Force Comprehensive Secondary School) was established in 2002, and since then we’ve not had any problem, that means you’ve been our good host.

“This medical outreach that we are doing this morning is not just in this place, it’s all over the country because we are celebrating our 59 years of existence, and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Oladayo Amao is very delighted that we are in your midst to do this. In fact, he is the one that asked us that we must come and do this medical outreach in this place. ”

Earlier, the Ground Training Command’s Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Mercy Awomukwu, who moderated the event, said the medical outreach, which was organised to commemorate the 59th  anniversary, was in line with her corporate service responsibility to her host community.

Responding, Ojiagu monarch, Igwe Ejim, expressed the gratitude of his subjects to the NAF, noting that they have been good and responsible since coming into their land. Ejim thanked NAF for the medical outreach and noted that it would bring great relief to many of his people. He, however, appealed to NAF to give his people some concession in the school in the area of admission for their children.
