The National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, University of Calabar branch has pleaded with President Tinubu to order the implementation of his directive on the four month unpaid salaries of its members.

The association said the earlier directive of the president has yet to be implemented and this is exposing its members to untold hardship.

Comrade Alexander Oko , the Branch Chairman, of NAAT and South/South Zonal coordinator made the plea during a peaceful rally at the University of Calabar.

He said the president ordered that four months out of the eight months salaries owed University during the eight months strike be paid as palliative.

He lamented that the salary was only paid to one union out of the four operating in the University and called for its implementation.

“Mr. president, you have made a statement that in your magnanimity as the president of the country on payment of salary to striking university workers.

“After considering eight months of hunger and starvation that we went through all in the course of speaking for the betterment of our educational system you looked at our hunger and said at least there should be four months of palliative in terms of our salaries.

“President Sir, that decision is yet to be implemented across board we are crying and calling upon you that the decision was just implemented one side it is a one sided implementation that we are getting.

“We have four unions, one has been paid the remaining three are still waiting in their hunger and starvation.

“Please Mr. president, help us redirect what you had directed that the rest that are still in hunger and starvation for which NAAT is, be paid.

“We are a part of those still waiting in hunger and starvation, please listen to our cry and direct that the rightful thing be done that our four months of withheld salaries that you have given as a waiver be released to our members”, he pleaded.

He decried the death of one of its members who was eaten up by a lion at the Obafemi Awolowo University.

He disclosed that the issue of lion is a tip of the iceberg as they cannot recount the measure of damage they face as Technologists that work in the University system.

He said they cannot give up their work because they have sacrificed to be part of those that will contribute to the growth and development of Nigeria.
