My mission is to unite Plateau using youth as drivers – Rep. Bassa/Jos North, Daniel Asama

From Jude Owuamanam, Jos

House of Representative member representing Jos North/ Bassa Federal Constituency, Mr. Daniel Asama Ago, has reiterated his commitment to unite the people of Plateau using the vast majority of youths in the state as the driving force.

Asama Ago, who won the 2023 election on the platform of the Labour Party said that he sees himself as a Plateau project having been elected by majority of Plateau people across party, religious and tribal lines.

Speaking at a concert, tagged Ebenezer Concert, which he organised on Saturday in Jos for the youth in his federal constituency, Asama Ago said that he was a product of God’s divine mercy and to give glory to the Almighty he organised thr concert and Thanksgiving to give honour to whom it’s due

He said that the concert was also to recognise the youth as the pillar of his success and strength and to assure them of his unalloyed commitment to lift their standard of living.

He said “By the grace of God, for those of you who are believers in Christ. We say Ebenezer means the stone of hell. In complete translation, it means God has brought me this far. This concert is to tell God that he’s done a lot so far. And we as christians, we believe in thanking God in any situation because we believe that he has a perfect plan for us.

According to the holy book, God has a plan and he says everything that happens happens for good. So this is the reason we are doing this thanksgiving. It’s just purely to tell God that you have brought us this far. In another word, we are telling God that you will not let us down at this point. So it’s a two way statement. We are telling God that you have brought us this far. You are not letting us down at this point, so you will not bring us this far and let us go.

“If you would notice, the majority of the people in this program are youth. We, together with the chairman of the planning committee, we split the program in two. We have a Sunday service that will happen tomorrow, and then we have a concert that is going on now. And the reason for the concert is so thet the young ones will like, catch a bite. So they will feel the part of this Thanksgiving.

“Because the majority of the people who would like to hear the loud sound, the good music, are the younger ones. So we did this so they would be carried along. So I’m just saying, even at the thanksgiving we are able to put the youth in perspective. You would not think that there will be any point that we will not carry the youth around. I don’t want to think I’m young. I don’t even know if I am old. So I’m somewhere in between. I’m neither young nor old, but I want to align more with the younger ones because they are the engine, the driving force of every economy of every country and every people.

“So I’m really, really working closely with the young people. 80% of my aides, my political assistants, my younger people. If you look closely, you know, you said how I came about. One of the strongest pillars of my emergence is the governor of this state. I will tell you the truth. His benevolence and open handedness and level playing ground that he offered was amazing. And if you look from his antecedents and from the way he does his stuff, I would think commissioner here will help me.

But I think 60 to about 70% of his cabinet are younger people. So if our chief executive is going that way, I, I don’t see why we go the other way. I want to align with his philosophy of younger people and being gender sensitive as well.

He said that he’s being described as the Plateau project because of the way he emerged.

“The reason why I am described as Plateau project is because of how I emerged. What happened during the election, we on the Plateau at some point almost gave up faith. It was so difficult. Plateau had gone through the roughest time of politicking. In this last dispensation, this very election that happened was the roughest that Plateau had gone through. So we have seen the true sense of suffering people have gone through on the Plateau politically.

“We were almost short changed. I came in as an option and I came in as a viable one at that the whole state, especially the people who means well for Plateau, rallied round and voted for me regardless of religion, tribe or political affiliations.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee and the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Musa Ashoms, concurred with the lawmaker, saying that though he came from a different constituency and different political party, he believed in the philosophy of Asama and his desire to carry every body in his constituency along.

He said, “When you have a young man that is energetic, that has the Plateau project in his heart, a young man that all political parties collapsed in his interest, why not support him? We’ve come a long way with Asama. Whether he’s in House of Reps or not. We know what he can do and to the glory of God Plateau rallied around him. It doesn’t matter whether he belong to. Labour Party, PDP, APC. The crux of the matter is that. He has a heart of Plateau, He understands the Plateau project. That is why we are here. If you notice, we have people from the APC. We even have people that are political. Because they believe in this mandate. His emergence is God’s own project.”

“So Daniel Asama is a son of unity. He is a symbol of unity and that is why we are here.”
