The lawmaker representing Orhionmwon South Constituency at the Edo State House of Assembly, Bright Iyamu, has said his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside his supporters signalled a mass exodus from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said this when he was officially received into the party in Ugo, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

Iyamu reassured his constituents that his move was to strengthen the party and not to cause division, emphasising that he remains committed to serving his people diligently.

“Even while in the PDP, I served my people faithfully. Now in the APC, I will do even more. My coming here is not a liability, but an asset to the party,” Iyamu said.

He also commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his developmental strides in Orhionmwon, pledging to work with him to ensure collective progress.

The Federal Commissioner representing Edo State on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Patrick Aisowieren, described Iyamu as a humble and dependable leader.

He praised the six ward chairmen, women leaders and youths of the APC for their commitment and assured them that the party would continue to make progress in the local government.

The Chairman of APC, Orhionmwon LGA, Comrade Julius Agbonze, lauded the leaders of the party for their focus and determination to improve on the lives of the people.

He expressed confidence that Orhionmwon South would deliver block votes to the APC in future elections.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Elders’ Council of Orhionmwon APC, Chief Matthew Ehigie, stated that the defection had further strengthened the party’s numbers and electoral prospects.
