The Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwolu, has said his administration will launch a new transportation policy for the state next month.

He disclosed this at the unveiling of Global Transport Magazine on Friday at the annual roundtable and public launch of Global Transport Policy, which is a bilingual magazine, at Ikeja, Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by Commissioner for Transportation in the state, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that his government was committed to good transportation for residents and visitors to the state.

The governor highlighted some of the interventions of his administration in the transportation sector within the last five years.

He added that the government has invested massively in the transportation sector, which has brought about the Blue Line train that commenced commercial operation in September 2023.

He stated that the train has carried over one million passengers within the past seven months of its operation. He also said the Red Line, which would service the western part of the state, has been commissioned.

Sanwo-Olu, who said the Lagos State waterways ferry over 54,000 passengers daily, assured that the government would continue to invest in the waterways. The government, he said, currently has 21 boats that have been working on the waterways, and that additional 25 boats would be commissioned soon to join the fleet.

The governor mentioned traffic management as one of the priorities of integrated intermodal system of transportation that would make connectivity of all modes of transport interventions in the state better, which includes rail, waterways and road.
