The MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) Best Graduating Student in 2023, Samuel Oluwasegun Ogundeyi, is set to continue his creative journey at the New York Film Academy (NYFA) in Florence, Italy, on a fully funded scholarship provided by the MTF.
The scholarship forms part of an ongoing partnership between MTF and the New York Film Academy aimed at strengthening global exposure for emerging African filmmakers and fostering deeper creative and industry ties between Nollywood and Hollywood.
A director, cinematographer and storyteller, Ogundeyi has built a growing portfolio marked by versatility and creative leadership. His directorial debut, Her Dark Past, won the MTF category at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), affirming the promise he demonstrated during his training at MTF.
Since graduating, he has expanded his footprint across multiple formats and genres. As Director of Photography on the short film Threshold, he contributed to a project selected at the Ibadan Indie Film Awards and the Malabo International Film Festival 2025.
He also directed Bridging Hope, a documentary produced for Drug Aid Africa, highlighting his capacity to craft socially impactful narratives. In the commercial space, Ogundeyi directed the Máadán Lipgloss launch campaign, blending cinematic storytelling with branded content. His cinematography work on Transparent Boy is currently in post-production, with festival submissions anticipated.
Beyond individual projects, Ogundeyi has leveraged his MTF experience into long-term collaborations. In June 2024, he co-founded NINE NINE Productions Limited with a fellow MTF graduate, transforming their partnership on Threshold into a sustainable creative enterprise.
Reflecting on his formative experience at MTF, Ogundeyi credited mentorship from industry leaders such as Tunde Kelani, Ikechukwu Obiaya, Linus Abraham and Jess Castellote of the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art as instrumental in shaping his creative philosophy.
“Storytelling is connection. It is expression, impact, and community,” Ogundeyi said. “My mission is to tell African stories that are nuanced, human and real — stories that remind us of who we are.”
His acceptance into NYFA’s Florence campus underscores the success of MTF’s global training pipeline, which continues to position African filmmakers for international relevance while grounding their storytelling in authentic local perspectives.
Through strategic partnerships and sustained investment in talent development, MultiChoice Talent Factory says it remains committed to building bridges between Africa’s creative industries and the global film ecosystem.
