Mrs. Osar-Emokpae launches Edo Language Book, ABIDI EDO

A major step forward in preserving and promoting the Edo language was taken yesterday at the headquarters church of the Macedonia Call Global Assembly, Anthony, Maryland, Lagos, as Rev. (Mrs.) Imose Osar-Emokpae officially launched her much-anticipated book, “ABIDI EDO: An Easy Way to Speak, Write and Read Edo Language.”

Speaking at the launch, she described the work as a gift to the next generation, and a call to every Edo son and daughter not to let our language fade.

“This is about giving people the confidence to speak their language again. Edo language is not lost yet. But it needs to be taught in a way that feels alive and usable. By this, it makes it interesting for people to want to speak their language again thereby preserving our good cultural values.”

With years of teaching and community work behind her, she brought passion and clarity to a subject often seen as intimidating for new learners.

The launch event brought together stakeholders, especially members of the Edo community, united by the common interest to preserve our good cultural values.

This was not just a book launch, it was a celebration of language, heritage, and the power of education. Copies of the book were made available at the venue, with Rev. Mrs. Osar-Emokpae on hand for signing and interactive reading sessions. Clear, practical, and refreshingly accessible, ABIDI EDO is more than just a language manual — it is a labour of love and a timely resource for anyone interested in learning or reconnecting with the Edo language, culture, and identity.

The book offers a simplified approach that breaks down complex grammar, pronunciation, and everyday conversation for learners at all levels.

Rev. Mrs. Osar-Emokpae, passionate teacher, minister and cultural advocate has created what many are calling a timely and much-needed resource for Edo people in Nigeria and the diaspora.
