The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has officially announced its decision to appeal the sanctions imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following incidents that occurred during the final of the African Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

CAF’s Disciplinary Committee on Thursday handed down a series of punishments to both Morocco and Senegal over what the governing body described as unruly conduct that marred the highly charged final encounter.

In a statement released by the FRMF, the Moroccan federation expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling, describing the sanctions as excessive and unfair, and confirmed that it has activated the CAF judicial process by filing a formal appeal.

The federation maintained that the disciplinary measures do not accurately reflect the sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the disturbances at the final, insisting that Morocco’s actions were misinterpreted in CAF’s findings.

Sources close to the case indicate that the appeal will be reviewed by CAF’s Appeal Committee in the coming days, a process that could potentially delay the full enforcement of the sanctions until a final verdict is reached.

The decision to appeal further deepens the fallout from the controversial AFCON final, which has continued to generate intense debate across African football, with both federations, fans, and stakeholders closely monitoring CAF’s next move.
