The Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) has reiterated its commitment to provide access to quality healthcare for students of tertiary institutions across the state through their enrollment into the Tertiary Institutions Social Health Insurance Program (TISHIP).
Director General of the commission, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta restated this at the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, during a sensitization visit.
Recall that the commission had last week launched the TISHIP with the aim of enrolling students in the health insurance scheme.
Dr. Akpoveta said TISHIP would provide immense benefits for the students, adding that they can have access to comprehensive healthcare services both within and outside the school premises.
He explained that the program extends health coverage beyond the borders of Delta State, ensuring that students can access quality healthcare wherever they may be.
Akpoveta said since inception, DSCHC has made remarkable progress in fulfilling its mandate of providing universal health coverage, noting that as at January, 1,864,054 persons had been enrolled, a figure the commission intend to increase by one million before the end of this year.
He reiterated the commission’s mandate of ensuring that healthcare remained accessible and affordable for all residents of the state.
Akpoveta listed the health programmes implemented by DSCHC to include Equity Health Plan; Formal Health Plan; Informal Health Plan; Access to Financial Initiative for the residents of the hard-to-reach areas; Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative; Artisans Enrollees Inducement Initiative; and TISHIP.
Vice Chancellor of UNIDEL, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, urged the students to embrace the programme for their own benefits, disclosing that the premium has been incorporated into their school fees.
Mrs. Chiemeke lauded the TISHIP initiative, commending Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to providing quality and affordable healthcare for students and residents of the state in general.
