Monarch’s murder: Ekwueme varsity condoles Ebonyi ex-deputy gov

The Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike(AE-FUNAI),  Ebonyi State,  has condoled with the former deputy governor of the state, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, over the murder of his father, HRH, Francis Igwe, by his abductors.

Igwe was abducted on his way to church on Sunday, March 1st this year. Days later, his body was recovered by security agencies. The perpetrators of the crime have been arrested, including the state Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sinbad Ogbuatu, who allegedly provided the account the hoodlums used and received money for their operation.

Ndufu -Alike is the host community of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University. The university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Daniel Nwachukwu, led members of the university management to condole with the deceased monarch’s son and former deputy governor of the state, Dr. Kelechi Igwe.

Nwachukwu said the visit was a demonstration of solidarity and support by the university’s leadership to the family in their moment of grief. He  conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the management, staff, and students of the university to the former deputy governor and the entire Igwe family.

He described the loss of the revered traditional ruler as a profound and painful experience, noting that the entire AE-FUNAI community shares in the family’s sorrow.

The vice-chancellor prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed soul and asked God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the painful loss.

Professor Nwachukwu further noted that the visit reflects the strong bond and cordial relationship between the university and Ndufu-Alike community and the people of Ebonyi State.

He assured the ex-deputy governor of the university’s continued prayers and support, while encouraging the family to take comfort in the meaningful life and enduring legacy left behind by their patriarch.

Responding during the visit, the former deputy governor expressed deep appreciation to the vice-chancellor and members of the university management for taking time out of their busy schedules to personally identify with his family in their moment of grief.

He described the visit as a touching and reassuring gesture, noting that the presence of the university leadership had brought comfort to the family at a difficult time. He said such expressions of sympathy and solidarity demonstrates the strong spirit of community and shared humanity that binds institutions and individuals together.

He further thanked the university community for their prayers, kind words, and support, stating that the show of compassion has strengthened the family in coping with the painful loss.

He prayed for God’s continued guidance and blessings upon the management of AE-FUNAI and expressed hope that the university would continue to grow in excellence and contribute meaningfully to the development of the Ikwo community and Ebonyi State at large.
