A 100 Level student of Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), formerly Benue State University, (BSU), in the Linguistics Department, Miss Akaa Elizabeth, has won a brand-new car worth N35 million in a raffle draw organized by MTN Nigeria.
The event, which was held from Wednesday and ended Friday night at the university campus, was part of MTN’s nationwide campus engagement and youth empowerment campaign designed to reward and entertain students across tertiary institutions.
The MTN Nigeria’s Youth Segment Manager, Femi Adesina, told Sunday Sun that the initiative was part of the company’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians and promoting entrepreneurship and creativity among students.
He explained that MTN’s “Pulse Campus Activation” targets youths within the 18 to 25 age bracket, offering them opportunities for empowerment through product showcases, entertainment, and rewards.
“We engage campuses across the country to empower students and also entertain them. Each activation lasts three days, during which students showcase their businesses, from snacks and perfumes to clothing and other small ventures as a way to support their entrepreneurship journey,” Adesina said.
He added that the activation also features various entertainment activities, including music performances, celebrity appearances, and interactive games, to create a lively experience for students.
Adesina noted that the highlight of the programme was a digital raffle draw where prizes such as a brand-new car, laptops, tablets, and smartphones were given out to participants.
He said MTN has already taken the campaign to several universities including UniAbuja, FUTO, UNIBEN, and will extend it to others such as the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta; Bayero University, Kano; and the University of Lagos.
He explained that eligibility for the raffle draw required participants to be MTN Pulse subscribers, open and transact on a MoMo (Mobile Money) account at least 10 times within the three-day period, and use the MTN app actively.
“The more transactions a student carries out, the higher their chances of being selected in the digital raffle,” he added.
Some students also shared their experiences during the activation.
A participant, Tsavnade Reuben, lamented that a phone malfunction prevented him from taking part fully in the raffle, while another student, Nathaniel Iorliam, expressed delight after winning a branded T-shirt and badge through the MoMo engagement.
“When we came on the first day, they told us to open a MoMo account. I did and funded it with N5,000. I was later told I qualified for a gift. It’s been a three-day event and today marks the grand finale,” Iorliam said.
The activation featured several side attractions including table tennis, giant chess, Ludo, 360° photo booths, a noiseless party, and gaming stations.
MTN’s Campus Activation, which blends empowerment with entertainment, continues to tour Nigerian universities as part of the telecom giant’s strategy to engage and reward youth customers nationwide.
