The Military has canvassed sustenance of synergy with the media to improve national security and peace efforts in the country.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, pleaded for military-media collaboration in his address at the opening of Third Quarter 2025 Media Stakeholders Seminar on Consolidating Media-Military Synergy For Sustainable Peace in Nigeria, organised by the Defence Headquarters in Maiduguri, Borno State, yesterday.

“The synergy between the media and the military, therefore, must be viewed not as an option, but as strategic and necessary,” the Defence Chief represented by the Director Defence Media Operation, Maj Gen Markus Kangye, said.

He stressed that the two institutions should function in complementary forces to promote national unity, preserve peace and democratic value despite their different nature.

He said the seminar is a convergence of critical stakeholders, calling for collaboration to tackle banditry, violent extremism, terrorism, separatist agitation, farmers-herders clashes among others.

Governor Babagana Zulum commended journalists for the risks taken to report security incidents, humanitarian issues, government interventions and community reactions.

Zulum said the seminar presented a candid dialogue for the media and military to examine common security challenges bedeviling the country.

He assured that his administration would continue to promote free peace and freedom of expression enshrined in the nation’s constitution.

The seminar was attended by defence correspondents, top military officers, police and para-military, scholars from the academic and civil society organisation.
