Troops of 6 Division of the Nigerian Army are combing the forest of Ahoada East Local Government for the two Koreans staff of Daewoo who were kidnapped by militants on Tuesday.
The militants who ambushed the convoy of the Daewoo workers killed four soldiers and two drivers before abducting the Koreans.
Sources disclosed that the names of the Koreans abducted are Messrs GS Joung and JS Park, while those killed were Sergeants Oyeniyi Ismail, Mark Sampson, Lance Corporal Nereka Meelubar and Anas Ibrahim. The drivers killed were Messrs Nana Gideon and Daniel Iyaye.
The Daewoo workers who were part of the maintenance team were stationed at Enweh West Maniford before the incident.
A statement by the acting Director, Public Relations, 6 Division, Major Danjuma John Danjuma, while confirming the incident said the General Officer Commanding, Major- General Jamal Abdulssalam had vowed to fish out the killers.
Military sources said Abdulssalam who was irked over the incident gave marching orders to troops to rescue the abducted Koreans and fish out the killers of the four soldiers and two civilians.
The sources also said the mandate of the troops deployed for the operation also included ridding the Ahoada forest of all forms of criminal elements.
“Since the incident, the troops deployed have been combing the forest for the abducted Koreans. They were whisked through the Emesu waterside using the Orashi River. So, the rescue team is working on a trail. The kidnappers cannot escape. We are going to get them. The directive of the GOC is very clear to rescue the Koreans and apprehend the masterminds,’’ the source said.
Meanwhile additional security has been deployed to the East- West Road to ensure safety along that axis.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Paul Ojeka Odama has also assured the people of Rivers and Bayelsa states of adequate security during the Yuletide.
He also urged all policemen in the two states to protect themselves, and be at alert all the time while on duty.
