Middle East conflict: Iran guards threaten assault on US varsities

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has issued a fresh warning to the United States, threatening possible attacks on American-linked universities across the Middle East in response to recent strikes on Iranian institutions.

In a statement released through state media, the Guards accused Washington and its allies of targeting academic facilities in Tehran and demanded a formal condemnation from the US government.

“If the US government wants its universities in the region to be free from retaliation… it must condemn the bombing,” the statement said, setting a deadline for compliance.

The warning also extended to civilians, as the Guards advised students, lecturers and other staff affiliated with American universities to keep away from campuses, while residents in surrounding areas were urged to maintain a safe distance.

Several US institutions operate campuses across the Gulf, including Texas A&M University in Qatar and New York University in Abu Dhabi, both of which could be exposed if tensions escalate.

The development follows reported strikes on parts of Tehran, including the University of Science and Technology. While the attacks caused structural damage, no casualties were immediately recorded.

The latest threat signals a troubling expansion of the conflict, with educational institutions traditionally regarded as civilian spaces now drawn into the crisis.

As hostilities deepen, the warning underscores the growing risk of the conflict spilling beyond military targets and into broader civilian domains
