Lionel Messi has moved within 63 goals of the historic 1,000-goal mark after scoring once and providing an assist in Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory over New England Revolution.

The Argentine forward reached 937 career goals and 428 assists following his decisive performance in the Major League Soccer encounter on Sunday.

Messi set up Germán Berterame for Inter Miami’s equaliser in the 69th minute before scoring the winning goal in the 83rd minute to complete his side’s comeback.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the latest milestone in a post on X, writing: “Lionel Messi reached 937 career goals and 428 career assists by delivering a goal and an assist for Inter Miami overnight.”

The 39-year-old’s latest contribution further extended his remarkable career record and brought him closer to the landmark of 1,000 goals across club and international football.

With 937 goals already recorded, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner needs 63 more to reach the milestone. His 428 assists also highlight his influence beyond scoring, having consistently created opportunities for his team-mates.

Messi’s performance against New England Revolution once again underlined his importance to Inter Miami, with the forward directly contributing to both goals in a victory that secured all three points for his side.
